You could easily believe you’ve slipped into a
trattoria in sun-kissed Rome or a ristorante in colourful Milan when
visiting Jobert’s, and there’s one reason why – Jobert himself.
Owner, front-of-house host, occasional chef and waiter, Jobert makes
a conscious effort to greet and treat each and every customer, and
it’s these little touches of Italian hospitality that make a trip
here so special.
Opened in 2003, Jobert’s is situated in the spa
town of Boston. Known locally as part of the ‘Golden Triangle’, it’s
easily accessed from Leeds, Harrogate and York, and it appears
diners don’t mind travelling a little because the experience is so
worth it. On the Tuesday evening we arrived, the 60-cover restaurant
was positively buzzing. Not packed to the rafters, but filled with a
mixture of families, couples and friends all enjoying a little taste
of the Med. Having worked previously at Bibis and The Flying Pizza
in the early days in Leeds and trained in Southern Naples, Jobert
offers an eclectic mix of authentic Italian cuisine. There’s the
expected pasta, risotto and pizza in abundance, along with a large
variety of specials and starters. We were well advised to sample the
papardelle al salmone – pasta ribbons with fine Scottish smoked
salmon and cream – and some of Jobert’s famous homemade meatballs.
Both went down deliciously, with not a crumb in sight. We were
instructed to try Jobert’s number-one selling dish (angolotti al
arogosta – pasta parcels filled with lobster and ricotta cheese,
served with a creamy tomato sauce) on our next visit. Our meal came
to under £30 including a bottle of Italian white, and if you’re
dining early, come between 5pm and 6pm to take advantage of Jobert’s
excellent early-bird offer – £5 for any pizza or pasta dish from the
main menu.
The music is soft and chilled out, the decor terracotta with Tuscan
touches. Original art adorns the
cream walls and with hospitality the Jobert’s way, it’s easy to let
your mind travel away from England to warmer climes.
